Over the last couple of years there have been a number of grants available to support customers making a move to driving electric vehicles. However the support is starting to reduce, and in December the UK Government cut the level of support available to purchase an EV from £2,500 to £1,500 for any EV under the retail value of £32,000.
On March 31st there will be a further change to funding support available, with the end of the OZEV Grant. Part of the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, this grant offers £350 towards the installation of a home charger for your EV. If you’re able to host a home charger this will allow you to charge your vehicle overnight, capitalising on low-cost charging.
It’s critical that the charger is physically on your home building wall by the 31st March to qualify for the £350 OZEV grant.
In order to speed up the process of applying for this grant, there are a few things you need to check:
- Is your vehicle on the UK Government approved list? Check the list to make sure you qualify.
- Make sure you pay your installer promptly to ensure no delays. The March 31st deadline is looming and any late payment may result in you not qualifying.
- Is your off-street parking boundary obvious? If there is any ambiguity you may be required to request a copy of your property deeds to show your installer the clear boundary available.
- If you’re a tenant, have you got written approval from your landlord for installation? The installer will require this in order for work to be carried out at their property.
- If you have secured your new vehicle via work or a Salary Sacrifice scheme you will likely need to show documentation to support this.
- Lastly, if you reside in a listed building you may require specialist consent for installation, which your local authority can advise on.
We expect there to be many who start this process quite soon to capitalise on the grant, so recommend you contact a supplier as soon as possible!
