Finding the right car for you is hard enough, but finding the right car for your family can be even more of a challenge. So many cars out their label themselves as ‘family friendly’ without ever earning that description.

The right car for you and your family needs more than a big boot or retractable seats. It needs to be reliable, comfortable and above all else, safe.

Our team gets a lot of questions from young families about the best cars with ISOFIX points. Luckily, it is now a legal requirement for vehicles with four or more seats to have ISOFIX points fitted. However, this doesn’t mean that every car is now perfect for young children.

Not to worry, our team of experts have handpicked the best cars with at least 3 ISOFIX points for young families. Take a look:

What is an ISOFIX point?

ISOFIX points (or mounts) have been a mandatory feature in all new cars with four or more seats since 2014. Most cars you’ll see on the road will have 2 located in the back outer rear seats. The ISOFIX mount, is a square metal structure, built in to the cars seat, in which an ISOFIX-compatible child seat will lock in to, and become a “permanent” seat for your young one.

As mentioned, most cars do offer just two Isofix points as standard, and as cars develop into new styles and sizes, it’s harder than even to understand which models actually will offer you 3 or more ISOFIX points. Today we divulge what models currently offer you 3 secured points, may it be an additional point in the passenger seat, or a third one in the back row or even in a 3rd seating row.

Petrol, Diesel & Hybrid

Skoda Karoq Sportline

When ISOFIX points are a priority, picking Skoda is never a bad choice. Almost every model has 3 ISOFIX points fitted or the ability to have them installed. The Karoq Sportline has two ISOFIX points on the outer rear seats and an additional one on the front passenger seat. Practicality is the priority here, with a comfortable interior and a spacious boot. A sturdy and reliable SUV that’s great for families young and old.

If the Karoq isn’t for you, other models such as the Kamiq, Kodiaq and the electric Enyaq also have suitable capacity for ISOFIX points.

Audi Q7

Few vehicles can match the Audi Q7 when it comes to child seat capacity. This premium SUV offers ISOFIX mounting points on every passenger seat, allowing you to securely fit up to six ISOFIX child seats simultaneously.

Whilst most drivers may not need the full ISOFIX capacity, this is the perfect choice for bigger families with younger children. With its spacious interior and wide door openings, the Audi Q7 makes fitting child seats a breeze, no matter where you choose to install them. Although at the upper end of the budget, the Q7 is still one worth considering.

Mercedes GLB

A premium option that manages to stay affordable is the Mercedes Benz GLB. This roomy seven-seater SUV is another great choice for growing families, offering ISOFIX points in 4 of its seats. Two are found in the outer chairs of the middle row, and the following two in the outer third row. Fitting car seats in the third row of a car is always going to be a challenge should you need to use more than two, but thankfully the centre seat in the middle row can be folded.

Its boxy shape maximises interior room, making it both practical and comfortable for families needing that bit of extra space without moving up to something bigger. You’ll also find plenty of storage compartments around the interior.

Land Rover Discovery

This may come as a surprise to some, but the newer versions of the famous Discovery are great choices for families with young children. The seven-seater has five ISOFIX points, available in the front passenger seat, the middle row and the third row. The Discovery’s flexible interior can be rearranged in multiple configurations to optimise space for passengers or cargo. Don’t be fooled, the third row is also adult-friendly

It’s a well-rounded, luxury SUV that balances family practicality with off-road capability and a high level of refinement.

Kia Sorrento

If the more upmarket options are beyond your budget, the Kia Sorrento is a well-equipped alternative. The Sorrento has four ISOFIX points spread between the outer second and third row seats. The car also has top tether anchorages in the back of all three second-row seats.

Inside, the Sorento is impressively spacious, with a well-thought-out interior and good legroom in all three rows of seats. Kia has put a lot of effort into materials and design, giving it a premium feel that rivals higher-priced competitors.

Electric

Mercedes EQB

An all-electric alternative to the GLB, the EQB is a luxurious seven-seater SUV bringing all the latest technology and safety measures. The EQB has four ISOFIX points. Two are found in the outer middle row and the other two are found in the outer third.

It’s maximum range of 321 miles makes it suitable for daily commutes and family travel, though perhaps a little shorter than some longer-range competitors. An ideal choice for those who want an electric SUV with the versatility of a family vehicle, but also the luxury and technology Mercedes is known for.

Kia EV9

Last but not least, the all-electric Kia EV9 offers a compelling option for those seeking a family-friendly SUV with zero emissions. The EV9 has ISOFIX points in four of the five rear seats. The spacious interior and wide doors also make for easy car seat installation.

It may not be the quickest, but the EV9 has an impressive top range of 349 miles. A practical and sustainable solution for larger families.

In summary, when it comes to safety and practicality for you and your young family we would always recommend speaking to one our Account Managers to determine whether one of these models is better for you than another.
